The 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo Covers Three Market Segments at Once
Performance station wagon sounds like an oxymoron. When you’re Porche (“Porcha” if you prefer)building a grocery getting kid hauling wagon that doesn’t offer high performance is not an option. The 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo is a union of power and practicality.
An option package the hybrid costs over 34 grand more than its all gas sibling. Receiving its power from a 14.1 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery the motor produces 136 horses. The battery/gas option will also cost you three cubic feet of cargo space. By way of compensation, it will add 600 pounds to the Panamera.
This figure is not set in stone, but hypothetically running solely on fuel from the receptacle the Panamera will cover 87 miles. According to Porche’s website, the EPA has yet to weigh in on any mileage ratings.
Five hundred-fifty steeds are corraled within a 4.0-liter double turbocharged V-8. An eight-speed idle left foot tranny channels all those ponies to the standard all-wheel-drive system. The V-8 + the electric motor + the transmission = 680 hp.
All those horses are reigned in by ceramic brakes. Every Panamera Hybrid built features the Sport Chrono Control plus Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport. With the el-cheapo version costing $188,400 you probably won’t see a lot of Panamera station wagons dropping dad or mom off to catch the train.
When all the horses are up and feeding the Panamera Hybrid tops out at 192 mph. Going almost 200 mph should keep the kids quiet.
