2019 Kia Forte Gets ‘Smart’ CVT

Kia unveiled the changes it has made for the 2019 Kia Forte at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show last weekend, and they are exciting. The all-new Forte sports many new features including a long wheelbase for more legroom and cargo space, available LED headlights, redesigned sheet metal and hood for a sporty look, Apple CarPlay, and more. The newest Forte is nearly unrecognizable, as Kia took a page out of its own book and give the small-sized sedan a Stinger-like rebuild.

Perhaps the most innovative change revealed at Detroit was Kia’s version of the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), in what the automaker is calling the IVT (Intelligent Variable Transmission). The new drivetrain is a six-speed transmission that gives the Forte less of a small car feel and provides the best fuel mileage in its class. The EPA-estimated mileage has not been announced to date but experts estimate that the IVT alone will boost highway mileage by 8%, or about 3 mpg, when paired to the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine.

Kia has made huge improvements nearly across its entire lineup in the past couple of years, and the 2019 Forte is no exception. As the automaker tries to reinvent itself by providing form as well as function, the future is looking bright.
